Multivariable analysis for selection of natural fibers as fillers for a sustainable food packaging industry

Abstract There is a rising demand for advanced new materials in food packaging to meet the growing economic and sustainability requirements. Natural fibers have excellent mechanical thermal isolation properties lower production costs than synthetic fibers, making them suitable candidates development of sustainable packaging. Other characteristics natural i.e., low cost, easy availability, impact on environment, these promising option The primary focus this study utilize multivariable analysis, an analytic hierarchy process multi-criteria decision analysis select appropriate fiber reinforcement from commonly used plant (coir, date palm, hemp, sisal, jute, flax, corn stalk, banana, bamboo, cotton). selection system compare crucial materials’ requirements parameters gathered different including density, Young modulus, elongation break, moisture content, conductivity, etc, help identify fibers. From results, selecting most depends design requirements, availability; all are also affected by geological conditions customer needs. Single parameter comparison investigated fiber; then rank highest priority process. results showed that density (22%), cost (13.6%), content (11.7%), conductivity (10.7%), at break (7.7%), modulus (7.4%) rated order priority. Hemp, banana sisal ranked as best choices i.e. TOPSIS. Examples presented considering using radar charts source countries such Kingdom Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India. Date palm preferred Arabia whereas bamboo jute better India Bangladesh.
